nice sermon minister La Fleur, please can you kindly Use your knowledge of the Bible and Christian experience to explain the importance of this verse to the believer "for we have not received a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind". Use of examples and other scriptures to support your points will be appreciated. Think about what types of people rely on this verse for encouragement, and how thay can use it for their own edification. thank you sir my email address is iklilian@yahoo.com Reply to this

I am happy to speak on your request. You are speaking about Romans 8:14-16 NLT.
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
15
So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves.
Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own
children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father. 16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.
You are aware that Paul was speaking to a group of believers. This is key because, there are certain topics that you would preach to a believer, and certain ones to a non believer. Paul was speaking words of encouragement, so that the new body of believers would understand they are not slaves to sin, because the Holy Spirit lives in them. Without the spirit, you cannot defeat sin, plain and simple. There is nothing to fear once we become believers in the death burial and resurrection of Christ. He will stand as a mediator between us and the father. He will be the redemption from our sin, which would send us to hell otherwise. A scripture that makes it plain there is nothing to fear is, John 3:18-20 NLT.
18 “There
is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does
not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s
one and only Son. 19 And
the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world,
but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions
were evil. 20 All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed.
I had a friend of mine call me today, and he was concerned about his whore mongering, and the fact he believes in Christ being contrary to this weakness in the flesh of his. I reminded him of Hebrews 10:26, If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left. Lets just say he was not happy with my answer. I am not perfect, but as you know, we have to die daily to this flesh. It is not an easy walk, but we as Christians we can say we have one, glory 2 God! I know that people use this scripture for strength against their sin, but we still have to do our best not to practice sin purposely. I hope I answered your question, and I plan to preach on sin real soon. Thank you for the opportunity to share the gospel with each other.
